Overpricing is what doomed the Japanese supercars in the 90’s. When prices for Supras and 3000GTs started edging into Porsche 911 and Corvette territory it was all over. As stoked as I am to see a neo-retro styled Z car, if it makes less HP than a 5 liter Mustang, at the same price point, they won’t sell. This is why Dodge continues to sell a ton of Challenger R/Ts.

The wishlist should really be that instead of showing us vehicles that may be coming in a year and a half how about sell the car today? I’d rather go with a 5th gen Tesla than wait a year and half for any 1st gen EV from these large manufacturers. If it is taking them this long to figure out how to make an EV then one should have reason to be skeptical of their ability to knock it out the park on the first try.

EV's are the biggest scam in history. Its stealing from the middle-class to redistribute wealth to the rich (top quintile took over 90% of all EV subsidies), based on fake fear mongering alarmism, with the goal of forcing the lower and middle class into mass transit in designated areas to reduce congestion and reserve personal mobility luxury for the upper class that can afford the overpriced vehicles.

@motomantv my biggest wish list item for this Nissan EV is for them to please incorporate better battery heat management. That's the single reason that's kept me from buying a Leaf for my last 3 EVs. It makes no sense when this 300 mile range car is suddenly only 225 after 1yr because the battery has degraded so much.

The vehicles that are worth serious consideration coming very soon. Mach E AWD, ID4 AWD, IONIQ 5 (which I think is the really cool sleeper in this group) and the Q4 E tron. Now if Molly wants up market I’d say Q4 sport back. Funky minimalist modern will be the Ioniq 5. (Hyundai, don’t put the Hyundai badge on it!). ID4 and the Mach E just look ready to sell like hot cakes. Ford wants the Mach E to be a seller as they already dropped the price to compete with the ID4. I’m going to test all of these!

My guess is starting at $38k and loaded at $52k. Batteries are expensive = there is no way getting around it. And honestly, based on passenger space and styling, this is more akin to the Murano than a Rogue. If they made a gasoline Nismo Murano with similar horsepower I wouldn't expect it to be less than $48k given the marketplace, would you? What I am saying is, they need to be cheaper than a comparable Tesla, but they can't give these away at a loss with their financials the way that they are.

To catch up with the segment leader (Tesla), Nissan has to be better than Tesla on pricing and/or capabilities such as battery, range, safety, built quality, expandable technology, or charging infrastructure. In the end, it has to be a package that's compelling enough for buyers to reconsider their preference for Tesla. Unfortunately, with the Ariya, it looks like Nissan is simply trying to be a follower. The Ariya is still far behind Tesla in many areas; I wouldn't buy one at this time; it's not compelling enough. The Toyota Rav4 Prime might be compelling because it can be a pure EV 95% of the time w/o having to worry about range, ever! In addition, it doesn't cost $60K like the Model Y and it comes with Toyota legendary build quality.

Hey moto man, it appears you're doing this video because it's your business to do videos. Now you are not alone, in that there are seemingly hundreds of Auto videos being reviewed for what I call "virtual" cars. Remember the term virtual software back in the 80s and 90s? Virtual software existed to slow down or stop the purchase of existing software from competitors. Maybe we should wait on that purchase because this new product is going to offer such a great deal! That car you're showing is not supposed to be in the United States any earlier than a year plus from now. How many times have we heard about a car that's supposed to be available in late 2021 or early 2022? They're coming out of the woodwork! Meanwhile Tesla has cars available for purchase and in certain cases are actually lowering the prices and adding value through longer lasting batteries and very beneficial upgrades. Case in point, Tesla is real, not virtual. And it is proven to be what many people consider fantastic products. Did you do a review on that new Cadillac that's due out in 2022? If you haven't, you should. You can earn more money with lots of views. Mazda is doing their best right now to promote and sell their new turbocharged Mazda 3. Meanwhile at the same time Hyundai is inviting the BMW ALPINA journalists out to see a camouflaged Elantra N model that admittedly will not be available until 2022. My real point is that who among us can be sure of what these future cars will actually bring to the table when they finally do get released and finally do become a real car? Right now I would say they are nothing more than concept cars.

One thing I would like to suggest to Hyundai and all car manufacturers actually. There are many of us that will buy manuals but like me, can't find one to buy. That is the only reason I am still driving the manual transmission car I bought new in 2006. I live near Chattanooga, TN.. Would you believe that the local VW and Honda dealers don't have anything on their lot as of my writing in a manual transmission? Unbelievable. Back in March, Toyota and Mazda didn't have any manuals around here. Kia and Hyundai have no manuals around here. Sure, I can drive a little over a hundred miles and find one but my point is they are not easily accessible. I feel many people that might be looking for a manual , will end up accepting an automatic, but they would have bought the manual if it was available. I believe as long as your company is making the manuals, you should make them available to all dealers on a consignment program. That way the dealers don't have to pay lot rent. Then when they sell a manual, they get another one on consignment. It would be win/win for everyone. Does anybody agree or understand what I am trying to say?

I really appreciate your review and agree with everything you said. I am still driving a car I bought new over 14 years ago with a manual transmission. I have been looking for something to replace it and am even considering the Veloster N but I prefer sedans and would rather have a four door for practicality and at my age. That does not rule out a two door like the BMW 230i with a manual though. I have never owned a BMW and am not sure I want to for long term ownership. I do however own a 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan with the 3.8L naturally aspirated motor and that car has been great for our main family car. So, what I am saying is that I would love to have this Elantra N or a Sonata N as long as I can get it with a manual. Everything else is you suggested makes it even better. Sunroof > like to have one / Analog Gauges > should be the standard with a manual, much better and more appreciated by the people who drive a manual / wheel/tire sizes > nothing bigger than 18" in my preference and some good all season Michelins / Seats > should be sporty and firm... color wise I suggest a mixture of dark gray and light gray with blue stitching to match the blue seat belts/ Limited slip differential for sure <> :) my two pennies worth

It ironic that the company that literally pioneered the practical modern electric car has to figure out proper electric car packaging. But the reason my wife and I passed on the first and second gen Leafs (Leaves?) were because the driver's legroom was lousy, which is a big problem for me. We got a Chevy Bolt instead which isn't ideal (few cars are), but at least I can drive it around town. I am looking forward to finding out if this car has better leg room since it looks like it has potential.

The best thing about an EV Nissan? NO CVT!!!! Also, I don't know whether it was the lighting, or the camera angles, but with those big black wheel arch flares, it looks like there's a giant gap between the tire and the body work. Those should be matte so they don't get lost and make it look like the tires are too small.

Quite like the episode. The car is nice and I think will sell very well. The form factor is pretty good in these cars for today's taste and design is nice for most folks. About convincing ICE drivers, for me is easy given I enjoy all propulsion systems but I can see quite a problem once ICE will be banned if they finally are which would be dumb cause the impact of a very tiny percentage of ice cars in world emissions would be pretty much zero. Ok... digressing. In short... daily vehicle I dont care but try to prohibit me from a flat6 and I'll have an issue with whoever politician does that. I can see many car people thinking like that but most people will not care meanwhile is affordable transportation (which never will be in my opinion)

Just give us something for the Skoda Octavia wagon buyers. Not needlessly short or curvy. Get the low consumption from tech and being lower, get the space from length and squareness. Go small on the smallest battery, make it modular so that you can add a centrally placed extra one later (even aftermarket) for additional range and performance when needed. Could be a few Bolts and two cooling hoses.

I agree about wanting physical knobs and buttons. Adjusting temperature and heated/ventilated seats in my wife’s XC60 is the most annoying part for me (built into virtual buttons on the infotainment screen). The sliding console with open floor can be a huge selling point for women. My wife is forever bemoaning that there’s nowhere to put her purse, in any vehicle, if I’m occupying the passenger seat. There needs to be other quick-access storage, though; not the glove box, covered center storage, or cup holders. A place to keep a chap stick, Kleenex, phone, a couple credit cards, hand sanitizer/small lotion that is within very easy reach of the driver. Again, my wife’s XC60 is horrible in this department, and her biggest recurring complaint. Don’t change the formula for the seats, as Nissan has some of the most comfortable seats out there. They need to have active battery temperature management (heated and cooled). They need to have a heat pump for efficient heating. Resistive elements don’t cut it in an EV when it’s 20 degrees (let alone negative 20).

While basic, the Tesla design is still much better than this Nissan and is more special. This Nissan looks too much like a Rogue and if I'm going out with my fancy wife for a fancy dinner because I'm fancy (that's why people buy Tesla's) then I want to feel fancy. Tesla Model Y design is different/unique enough that I feel fancy and special, the Nissan, while looks nice, it's not different enough to make me buy it.... perhaps even with a significant price drop. Why? because people (today) don't buy EV's to get a good price, if so they'll buy a ICE car. People buy EV's to feel special and just from looking at the Nissan here, it's not special enough.

An electric vehicle that is front wheel drive is doing it wrong. All that torque at low RPM is going to spin the front tires, which will require traction control intervention.
