And I heard you could retro fit the X5 4.8 S multi layer steel headgasket to these?
Yes 4.6 is m62 and 4.8 alpina made m62 set up as well
I had an N62 in an E60 550i M Sport. It was under BMW warranty, but still had issues with leaking plastic camcovers, leaking timing chain tensioners etc. I didn’t have the valve stem issue as I sold it within 6 months (gearbox issue). Garbage engine the N62 is.

What a shame! Maybe it was good I turned down that 4.8 S..... My M62 Schnitzer gets oil and filter every 3k for the last 50k, and coolant every year. I don’t take risks. It’s also had the heads off in 2010 for suspect overheating (turned out to be viscous clutch lol) and all new gaskets/re-engineering of heads etc. Shell Helix 5W40 oil and Mannol blue pre-mixed coolant means I shouldn’t ever see these sorts of issues.
Mate, you’re a proper mechanic. My guy is a lazy shit, doesn’t want to do any real work other than oil and filter changes. This is proper mechanical work, and you’re great at it
